Hi,

I decided to study IELTS in the Philippines 3 months prior to going to Canada after receiving the working holiday visa. At first, the decision was made so that I could speak English better before arriving in Canada but I needed good IELTS score if I were to immigrate there and I heard the academic course was more difficult compared to the general course which led me to choose the academic course so that I could improve my English skills and raise my IELTS score. I believed that if I chose the academic course which is harder, then I would be good at the general course as well.

I raised a wall between me and English after high school and had gotten farther away from English after living in Japan and learning Japanese. 10 years has passed after high school and I was able to get a surprising grade of 5.55, above average score, in the span of 3 months I have stayed here.

At first, this was possible because of the amazing teachers. There are good teachers for every aspect of English and they did everything to enhance my skills in English. In my writing class, I learned how to use the right expressions to explain and the appropriate words and vocabularies. In my reading class, I was able to learn how to solve different types of questions. I prepared for my listening class as if It were real and was able to see what mistakes I had with the scripts that were prepared beforehand. In my speaking class, I had lessons with my teacher for speaking class and prepared for the IELTS exam in the Philippines by gathering information and how to think and answer to suit the questions of IELTS. My speaking teacher always provided me documents, files, videos willingly, hoping that it would help me with my English proficiency.

I was able to have very informative group classes aside from 1:1 classes with these amazing teachers. Because I was aiming for a high score in IELTS within a short span of time, I took excessive amounts of 1:1 and group classes and they rewarded me with high scores. Group classes are mainly divided into ESL and IELTS group classes and IELTS group class was specially made for IELTS students. I also enjoyed listening to ESL group classes and I went to the pronunciation and phrasal verb classes by U.K teacher Phil and I can say that those classes are the base of my English. IELTS group classes were helpful in a way that the vocabularies were of higher level and the quality of the classes were good since there were only IELTS students in them. I was able to solve and learn questions from actual IELTS tests and answer them with the teachers which was also very helpful.

After preparing at AELC with very professional teaching staff and splendid curriculum, I was able to attain a satisfactory grade. It became the bridge for immigrating to Canada, a turning point in my life. Of course, I can not say that I was satisfied with the life I had in the Philippines but the 3 months at AELC were very satisfactory and beneficial.
